BUSINESS LEADERS URGE ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE, SUPPORT A PRICE ON CARBON

TORONTO – Over twenty business leaders from a diverse range of sectors today offered their support for the Wynne Government’s plan to put a price on carbon.

In a letter to Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, the CEOs noted “climate change poses one of the greatest global challenges and threatens to roll back decades of development and prosperity.”

In response to the threat to prosperity, the leaders from industries including mining, forestry, energy, cement, manufacturing, finance, healthcare, technology and real estate sectors urged Premier Wynne to take measures to address climate change “by establishing a transparent economy-wide price on carbon”.

The letter was initiated by business leaders associated with the Council for Clean Capitalism.  Council spokesperson Toby Heaps said “most businesses today realize that the status quo is not an option when it comes to climate change. Putting a price on carbon sends a strong signal Ontario is open for business in the fast-growing low carbon global economy.”
